NYC - Queens - Corona: Louis Armstrong Place

107th Street, between 37th Aveue and 34th Avenue in Corona, is dubbed Louis Armstrong Place. Armstrong purchased a modest house on that block, built by Robert W. Johnson in 1910, in 1943 and lived here until his death in 1971 of a heart attack, one night after . In 1983, Armstrong's widow, Lucille, willed the house and its contents to New York City for the creation of a museum and study center devoted to Armstrong's career and the history of jazz.
Armstrong, known to many simply as Satchmo and widely recognized as the founding father of jazz, was born in a poor section of New Orleans known as “the Battlefield” on August 4, 1901. He moved to New York in 1924 to play with the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, the top African American band of the day, switching from cornet to trumpet. He lived in New York on and off, with detours in Chicago, Los Angeles and Eurpe before finally settling in Corona.
Beyond being an instrumentalist virtuoso, he also pioneered jazz style vocals and popularized scat style voals, recording hit songs, many of which have become jazz standards, for five decades. His talent for improvisation helped the trumpet emerge as a solo instrument, but he was also a masterful accompanist and ensemble player. He was known as a tireless performer, averaging over 300 concerts a year. His celebrity extended beyong music, appearing in over 30 films.

Modern Pentathalon Athletes Monica Pinette, (Langley B.C.) and Kara Grant (Stratford, PEI) share the 3 finger "Peace Plus One" Sustainability Symbol at the Olympic Games in Beijing China.
The modern pentathlon is a five-discipline sport that takes place in a single day. The events are running, swimming, horseback riding, fencing and shooting.
Monica Pinette and Kara Grant are the first Canadian women to ever compete at the Olympics in the modern pentathlon. The women's event was added to the Olympic program in 2000. They are also the first Canadians in the sport, men or women, since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

Of Fame and Failure - 1/3 A short series

I hope you really like these images - I think they're some of my best (or at least different and creative) so far.
It's funny where things come from, the inspiration to make things happen - when the elements fall in place and combine
- a conversation with a friend on fame and failure;
- seeing these theatrical masks in a shop then sitting in the studio for a couple of weeks without any real purpose;
- an imprompt photo test shoot this morning as my meetings today postponed
And then you start shooting - the people walking along the beach thinking you completely mad (maybe they're right).
THen back in the office - opening the raw shots - "cool" you think and edit away - lost in some zone for hours.
Finally satisfied you post and share - wondering what you will think?
